Row houses almost done, waiting on parts …

Friday, January 30th, 2009
I just need a few more parts to finish these.

I just need a few more parts to finish these.

I may add a fifth house on the left side, rather different from the other four, with a fenced side yard. There’s something like that in the inspiration photo, and I haven’t tired of trying new color combinations yet on these :-)

Also, I like the yellow/white house, but the light yellow bricks that
I really like don’t really stand out much. I tried, on the second
story, using *just* the light yellow bricks, but it looked too
plain next to the other houses. One other thing I could do
is use yellow bricks instead of white, or the yellow bricks
with grill. I tried a small section like that and it looked
pretty good, but I haven’t decided whether or not I want to change it over to that.

Tried tan shutters on the dark red house …

Tan shutters on house four tried and rejected

Tan shutters on house four tried and rejected

This is a crummy late evening photo, and I kept it only because it shows that I tried using tan shutters and drain pipe and a dark red cornice on the dark red row house. And the tree in front of the window. All were rejected.

Work on Row Houses continues …

As of the am, 2 are pretty far along

As of the am, 2 are pretty far along

On the first one, the bottom window has been moved to the left one stud, to better balance the space around the added door light. The rain pipe is almost complete now, but one piece is still light gray while the rest are light bluish gray.

There's going to be room for gardens on the roof.

You can see pretty much what the second one will look like, even though it’s waiting on the rest of the yellow shutters and yellow pieces for the cornice. The white and tan ones are just there as placeholders.

By evening there are three, and changes have been made on number two. The owl is gone. It didn’t really work, and the windows can go closer together without it. The lamp has been added as well. One more shutter arrived, but I’m still waiting on four more plus the missing pieces for the cornice. The third one has no shutters. Instead, a grillwork protects the ground floor window. The second story windows will be plain, and I *might* put a tan lion’s head there, like the light bluish gray one on the first house. Also, if I get enough yellow rain pipe pieces, I might put a yellow one on house two and move its white one to this third house.

Row House A – All shutters present!

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

It’s still not finished. I’m waiting on the rest of the pieces to complete the rain pipe, but the shutters are all here and it’s looking pretty good, so I decided to take some progress photos. Also, I may need to disassemble this one of the row houses and substitute another color, in order to use these pieces in Victorian III. So … best to record it while I can!

Row Houses – early days

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

While waiting on parts for my Victorians, I’ve started a street of row houses.  Again, I’m soon short of something needed and waiting for parts, but meanwhile, this shows the scale and basic colors involved.
